30th November (Eve) + !st December - Leith - Edinburgh

WinterTrad 2024

WORKSHOPS:

The format is a bit different this year but building on past years we’r back to having four amazing tutors and a mixture of Tunes, Technique and heritage so something for everyone.

Ross Couper sadly can’t be with us this year so we’re delighted to welcome Banjo and Fiddle superstar Ciaran Ryan (Ciaran Ryan Band, Dallahan, Shooglenifty) as this years musician in residence.

More information and Tickets below:

‘SESSION’ Workshops - Like last year there are 2 of these. Tom Oakes first teaching his current favourite tunes and then Ciaran Ryan teaching his. Both multi-instrumentalists, they’ll be helping out guitarists in each others classes so these workshops are open for all.

They are run as two separate 1 hr workshops with a gap in between.

Allan MacDonald - Piping, Song and Stories

An hour and a half in the company of a living legend. A world authority on the Gaelic language, the Bagpipes and many other things! Allan is not only an encyclopedia but a true entertainer. It is an absolute honour to have him along. Learn some tunes, play some tunes and get to know one of Scotland’s finest. Open to all.

This workshop is 1.5hrs long and runs at the same time as the Fiddle Class (Sorry we ran out of time!)

Shona Mooney - Fiddle

Beyond delighted to be able to welcome Shona to teach a Fiddle class at Winter Trad this year. Originally from the borders Shona is one of the finest fiddle players, composers, arrangers and fiddle educators in the country.

WINTER TRAD IS BACK FOR ONE LAST HURRAH!

It’s the final Winter Trad (With that name at least..) and it’s going to be AMAZING!

A bit shorter this year but absolutely jam packed. Winter Trad is going to be squeezed into just 24hrs of joy and mayhem.

Our traditional ‘school’ element is gone as is the formal Saturday evening concert but what we have is entirely focussed on you having as much fun and as many tunes as possible. We’ve some glorious new venues that you’ll hardly even believe. The incredible panoramic views of The Port of Leith Distillery and the all new Campervan Brewery as well as our now spiritual home of The Mother Superior and many other fantastic pubs and cafes.
